The Artist

About

An Oklahoma artist whose hands shape bronze and oil into stories of land, life, and legacy.

Biography
Link S. Cowen at gallery exhibition

Oklahoma based sculptor and painter, Link S. Cowen, has been honing his artistic skills since semi-retiring in 2005. Link blends his experience as a decorative concrete artisan and building contractor into the three-dimensional art form of sculpture.

As an outdoorsman, Link's work reflects the beauty and realities of nature. Working primarily in bronze using the lost-wax casting method, each piece begins as hand-sculpted clay and passes through a meticulous multi-stage process before reaching its final form.

From the delicate musculature of wildlife to the quiet intensity of portrait reliefs, the work captures moments of stillness and motion, permanence and change. His sculptures range from intimate tabletop works to dramatic life-size installations, while his paintings explore figure, portrait, and landscape with bold color and emotional depth.

Every sculpture begins as a conversation with the material. The medium has its own memory, its own weight. My job is to listen before I shape.

Creative Process

From Vision to Bronze

01

Concept & Sketch

Every piece begins with observation and sketching — studying form, gesture, and the emotional core of the subject.

02

Clay Modeling

The sculpture takes shape in clay, where proportions are refined, surfaces are textured, and the piece finds its balance.

03

Mold & Casting

The finished clay is molded and cast using the lost-wax process — an ancient technique that preserves every detail.

04

Patina & Finish

Chemical patinas are applied to create the final coloring — rich earth tones that will develop even more character with time.
